January 2026 Officers of the Month

The UNC Charlotte Police Department is proud to recognize Officer Dwight Locke and Officer Joseph Rivera as the Officers of the Month for January 2026. Both officers are prior recipients of this award and continue to demonstrate consistent excellence in service, professionalism and officer safety.

In January, Officers Locke and Rivera responded to a complex and potentially dangerous call involving an individual under the influence of a narcotic. The individual was increasingly destructive and disoriented, so MEDIC was called to assist. The individual was transported to the hospital for further medical care.

A supervisory review of body-worn camera footage confirmed that Officers Locke and Rivera handled the incident with professionalism, restraint and respect throughout. Their actions prioritized officer safety while protecting the well-being of all individuals involved.

With this achievement, both officers are eligible for the Officer of the Year award.
