February 2026 Officer of the Month
Congratulations to Corporal Jason Johnson for being selected as the Officer of the Month for February 2026!
Cpl. Johnson has been a dedicated member of this department since 2016, and consistently demonstrates unwavering commitment to both his role as a K-9 handler and to the safety and well-being of our community. He reports to work each day prepared, professional and ready to serve.
On Monday, Feb. 2, Cpl. Johnson responded to South Village Deck in reference to an individual expressing thoughts of self-harm. Cpl. Johnson immediately responded to the roof area, where he observed the individual standing near the wall. Remaining calm and composed, he engaged the individual in conversation. Through the use of effective communication skills and interview tactics, Cpl. Johnson was able to build rapport and gain the individual’s trust. His steady presence and professionalism ultimately convinced the individual to walk down to the first floor safely.
Medic units responded and transported the individual to the hospital for further evaluation.
Cpl. Johnson’s actions that day exemplify the highest standards of law enforcement service. His ability to remain composed under pressure, communicate effectively and intervene during a mental health crisis directly resulted in a life being safeguarded.
This marks the sixth time Cpl. Johnson has received Officer of the Month recognition, a testament to his consistent excellence and dedication. With this award, he is now eligible for the Officer of the Year Award.
